Access issues

This page details access changes that are not in the latest guides.

Onkaparinga closure

Climbing access at the Onkaparinga River National Park is still not available via the steps. The fire damage is being repaired but the path down is now quite dangerous and wet weather has hampered repairs.

Access the cliffs by abseiling in and climbing out.

Car Crash crag

The City of Mitcham has asked that climbing cease here. The CCSA is working with the council to try and get climbing back here.

Waitpinga

Waitpinga is now open subject to some conditions - see the guides page for information.

Access:
Some investigation has exposed the recent accident at Waits in a better light.
Apparently, two climbers (not beginners) were using the old guide to access the cliff. Upon reaching the car park, they descended the wrong gully (Mollusc Wall area) and promptly got into some trouble trying to climb out (loose rock etc).
They have since been informed of the existence of an updated guide and the proper access.
Solution? All we can do really is a) raise awareness at CCSA club meets, b) post information via the CCSA email address, and c) ensure people are aware of the updated guide

Camping:
There is no camping allowed on the farmer's property that is used to access the cliff.

Loweroffs/rope length:
The updated guide highlights rope length as an issue and points out a variety of routes whereby a 70m cord may prove useful. However, some detail is lacking with regards to lowering off Achilles Gambit/BoB lines - as a 60m will definetly NOT reach the ground.
Solution? Again - the guide will be updated to reflect an interim lower off point for these routes (i.e. the True North Easy anchor).

Corro Crag

Corro Crag (see Adelaide Hills Guide Book) is closed. The land owner has stated he does not want climbers using the crag any more. Please respect this decision.
